I have the honour to transmit for your consider.
-ation the enclosed copy of correspondence with the Naval Authoriti.
-es concerning the transmission of Meteorological observations from
Merchant vessels to the Cape D'Aguilar Radiotelegraphic Station for
the use of the Royal Observatory, Hongkong.

One of the principal reasons for the installa-
-tion of a Radiotelegraphic Station by this Government was to sup- -ply the dificiency in weather reporting stations in the sea areas to the South and East of the Colony and time to secure imamity from such a disastrous surprise as overtook the Colony in September 1906. Meteorological reports from the areas referred to will also be invaluable in making the daily weather forecasts of the Observa-
-tory.
As regards warnings of typhoons it is from
ships within 400 miles of Hongkong that Meteorological messages are
most useful.

At the present time the reasons which exist in Europe for prohibiting the emission from Kerchant vessels of Meteorological observations by radiotelegraphy do not appear to exist, and I therefore venture to ask that the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty may be approached with a view to a re-considera-
